Investors Call for Action Against YY Capital Chairman Over Alleged Fraud
(Phnom Penh) – Investors in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. are urging Cambodia’s Ministry of Justice to intervene in a case against Yamada Taihei, the company’s Japanese chairman, who is accused of serious financial misconduct and breaching the trust of shareholders.
The complaints allege that Yamada exploited his position to manipulate real estate transactions, diverting approximately USD 4 million for personal benefit. He is further accused of bypassing shareholder authority, creating fictitious business deals, and arranging loans exceeding USD 7 million under the names of well-known Japanese companies to mislead investors. Part of the allegedly misappropriated funds is reported to have been transferred overseas to an account in the name of his wife, Ye Jun.
Investigations suggest that Yamada also established multiple shell companies in Cambodia, Japan, Singapore, and Malaysia, appointing nominees as company representatives while controlling all financial operations himself. These activities may involve embezzlement, forgery, and money laundering.
Cambodian prosecutors have already filed at least two criminal cases against Yamada and his associates, freezing numerous assets and bank accounts. Further investigations are ongoing, and authorities in China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States are reportedly examining related financial irregularities.
Through their letters, the investors are calling for a thorough and transparent investigation, protection of victims’ rights, and accountability for the accused. They also warned of potential interference from influential figures that could obstruct justice, intimidate witnesses, or destroy evidence.
The investors emphasized the need for fairness and transparency to prevent the accused and his collaborators from evading responsibility, urging authorities to ensure justice is served.
